The following video highlights a very simple product available at Life View Outdoors that will keep you stuff dry, your gun safe for airline travel, or simply protect electronics or other things while you are boating. The price is very reasonalbe since you can use the Plano boxes for different things unlike a dedicated gun case. If you decide to use it for a dedicated gun case, you might want to pick up some foam at at craft store to protect your gun.
This week I will be posting a few videos that highlight some products from a company I mentioned a while back called Life View Outdoors. I had the chance to see their operation not too long ago and meet the guys behind the website. One thing is for sure, they guys behind the scenes are just as cool as the site. It was really refreshing to see how they got started.
If you are thinking about getting into the outdoor sports you need to check them out. I think you will find their prices competitive, and I dare say you will not find any better customer service.
We get asked about Class III weapons a lot. It seems everyone wants to have one at least once in their life. We are not a Class III dealer because we simply don’t see the point of the whole thing. A Class III weapon might include a suppressor, a short barreled rifle or shotgun or an automatic weapon.
You can legally purchase these by going through a Class III dealer and filing your paperwork with the government. However, the restrictions are high and so is the cost. You will end up paying $200 to the government for each weapon. Not a big deal on suppressors or short barreled weapons, but automatic weapons haven’t been imported in this country since the late 1980’s. This means that the prices are outrageous for most of them. Expect to pay in the thousands of dollars.
Then remember that you have a federally regulated weapon. You must inform ATF whenever you plan to travel with the weapon across state lines. You must always have your paperwork with the weapon.
Don’t get me wrong, they are fun to shoot, but you can have as much fun going to Knob Creek every year for a lot less money and headache.
On the MCC Ruger SP101 Conversion we used a set of Badger Custom Grips. It was the first time that we had ever shot them. The grips were awesome. They are beautifully made. So much so that it was hard to tell if they were one piece or in fact two piece construction.
The finish of the grips was awesome. They felt great in the hand and absorbed the recoil much better than the factory grips. If that isn’t enough they look awesome. The black wood combined with the matte finish of the gun was a really cool combination, so much so that they will be a part of the standard MCC SP101 Conversion.
Here’s the great news. Badger Custom makes grips for any number revolvers including Colt and S&W. If you want to add sharp look to an old revolver you might want to check them out.
It is interesting that we are seeing some trends continue even in the post balloon era that took place from November until about May. I recently received Brownell’s catalog for the up coming year. If Brownell’s isn’t a familiar company, I encourage you to check them out. They are the largest parts and accessories for shooters in the world.
At the beginning of the catalog the owner mentioned how they have added over 1,000 new items. The interesting part was that the majority of those are for the AR platform.
The AR platform has become the most popular rifle platform over the last few years. This can be attributed to several things:
Versatility. You can play with it, hunt with it and compete with the same rifle.
Ease of use. It is simple to maintain and clean.
Manageable recoil. With compensators the felt recoil can be tuned to almost nothing.
Accuracy. The 5.56 is a great round for competition.
Accessories. If you can dream of it, it is probably available for the AR.
We have been servicing AR’s since we first opened our doors. As a matter of fact, I looked back at our records, and an AR-15 was the first gun that we ever serviced. From that gun until now, we have set up all kinds of AR’s from Law Enforcement contracts to varmint rifles to competition rifles.
These experiences have led us to some new things at MCC. Stay tuned. There’s more to come.
I mentioned that the SP101 conversion was finished now and thought you might like to hear some customer comments concerning these modifications:
Once again all I can say is wow! Was that my pistol you sent back? The trigger pull and smoothness was incredible you did a perfect job. The bead blast really made the pistol and the polish job on the trigger absolutely made the pistol more pleasurable to fire and looked great. The XS sight was dead on and far superior to the factory sight. Now for the range report: I fired 158gr and 124gr shells about 60 rounds. Both fired well and were consistently accurate. The new grips made firing the
heavier bullets a breeze even single handed and also when using my off hand, I highly recommend them. The accuracy was increased greatly by the smoother trigger pull and lighter springs; the biggest difference was the sights. Put the dot on the bull’s eye and that’s where the bullet hit. Before with the factory sights my consistency was quite off, I could never find my line of sight. I was shooting at 20 feet and kept an approximate 3.5 inch pattern with both loads. I must say of all the pistols I have owned this one gets the “most improved” award, you did a
great job.
D. D.
I think that sums it up better than I ever could have.
We have been waiting for a while to be able to announce the MCC Custom SP 101 package, and we are finally ready to start filling orders. As with all of our most popular packages this one was customer driven. We were asked to take a stock SP 101 and turn it into a custom CCW piece that is also a beautiful piece to add to any collection.
We started out with an SP 101 DAO in .357 Magnum. To be sure this has to be one of the best platforms around for any of the small revolvers made to today. It has a heft to it that balances well and makes shooting .357 Mag a lot easier than some of the other offerings that are available today.
We addressed several issues for our customer. To start with we bead blasted the frame to give it a great matte finish. This certainly makes this gun better suited for a CCW application than the factory polished stainless. We then performed a complete trigger job which included polishing every plunger and all bearing surfaces. We followed that with a mirror polish of the trigger itself.
The final touches were a set of Badger grips provided by the customer, and a XS 24/7 tritium night sight to replace the factory front sight. From the photos you can tell that this gun is definitely not the same.
This gun is not only a looker, but it is a serious piece of hardware. At the range it shot great. The new sight made target acquisition an easy thing. The grips helped to control the gun during rapid fire.
While it will shoot .357 Mag just fine, I prefer .38 special in this gun because recoil is not noticeable at all. This gun makes much more sense for a lady or a vehicle gun than a S&W airlite for that reason alone. It is definitely heavier so it might not serve as well for a BUG gun, but it is so much more fun to shoot than most BUG guns I have ever shot.
If you have any questions feel free to contact us by email. We are now accepting orders for the MCC SP101 package that includes everything mentioned above. Price for this package is $325.
I was sitting in the shop the other day watching it rain when one of our customers showed up to give me a box of ammo from a day of shooting we had shared together. It was a very kind gesture, but the next thing he gave me was over and above anything he ever owed me as a customer.
He handed me a what looked like a multi-tool. Now I have to admit that I have a small problem with gadgets. . . I get hooked really easily. So you can imagine how stoked I already was to see the tool, but then I opened it, and I got super excited. It was a Caspian Pocketsmith.
These things are awesome, and they are the perfect gift to give your favorite gunsmith (unless you want to make a tax free donation to my children’s college fund!!) I have fooled around with it for a while to discover how cool it really is.
It is a bushing wrench, pin punch, screw driver, pliers, hex head driver and a knife. The best thing is that it is only $35 retail. That means you can actually afford something for yourself.
Thanks SAM for being that kind of guy. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
CCW Reciprocity has been in the news a lot lately since the a federal measure to allow reciprocity failed by only a few votes. I thought that it might be helpful to let you see this link to the NRA-ILA’s website. It has detailed information about the reciprocity for each state.
We certainly have come a long way in this area. When I received my first permit from North Carolina, they did not recognize any other states. Gradually they began to recognize bordering states, but it took a long time. Today most states have good reciprocity agreements.
Please remember that these charts, while great, are only a tool, and they may not contain exact information. The NRA works hard to keep things current, but when in doubt, contact state government.
The MCC Extended Glock Release is really starting to move. We recently sent one out and this is the response we received.
I got my new mag release in the mail today. No trouble swapping out the old release and installing the new one. I love it! It feels really good and is so easy to use. Thanks so much.
All the best,
C.H.
These mag releases are easy to install, and if you have any questions we are happy to walk you through the installation. We think they offer the best of both worlds: A mag release that is not too long with all the sharp edges removed. This is a great hybrid release for those of you looking for something for competition and duty.

What you may not realize is how Remington streamlined manufacturing to give you some of the best shotguns ever produced. Remington introduced the [...]

Judge Rules Guns In Restaurants Law Unconstitutional Posted: Nov 20, 2009 3:52 AM CST Video Gallery Restaurant Owners In Court To Fight Guns In Bars Law 1:21 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Opponents of the controversial guns in bars and restaurant law won their battle in court Friday. Every year at this time, the leaves change, the deer begin to rut, and muzzleloaders across the country begin to rust. Call a sign that fall is here, or that the Christmas season is upon us. This mysterious phenomenon has made many a gunsmith a little extra Christmas cash. To be truthful, I was a victim [...]
One of the debated questions today concerns how much spare ammo you should carry. Police often carry 2 spare magazines bringing their ammo to around 45 or 46 rounds. Obviously most people in Law Enforcement will never have to use their pistol in the line of duty, much less discharge anywhere near that kind of [...]
